What are Laser Pointers?
When doing business presentation or proposals, Laser Pointers are used to highlight specific terms or text emphasized during discussion. At the end of the device is a point of light that make use of low power then sends a laser beam until it is projected outside. The light exhibited from the pointers themselves are only made visible by the presence of dust particles, although some newer and high powered types of Laser Pointers can be seen in moderate to dimly lit conditions.
Usage
Aside from business setting, this device is also typically seen in the academe for visual demonstrations and presentations. The light emitted through the device catches the audience’s attention, thus causing them to turn their attention to the part of the text highlighted by the pointer. There are different colored Laser Pointers available and each one will be discussed thoroughly below.
The initial model of this device were red laser points until it has developed into different varieties to suit the needs of its user. Indeed, with business and educational setting, it provides means to cater to faster acquisition of knowledge or to make discussions more interactive. Other business accessories that have evolved over time includes Business Card Holder wherein there are more personalized variety nowadays like the engraved business card holder, which has become promotional items as well. The same applies with other business accessories like pens, money clips, and the like.
Different Varieties
As of today, there are three varieties of pointers available in the market:
*Red – These are considered the most basic out of all the other pointer types. Most of these type of pointers are battery-powered and was initially released in the 1980s. However, the earlier models of red laser pointers were large and cost a hefty price. Today though, they come in smaller designs and are more cost-efficient.
*Green – It wasn’t until the year 2000 that the green model of Laser Pointers was released. In comparison to the standard red, the green types utilize a more complex design mostly because of the wavelength range. The process of producing the green light undergoes an indirect procedure. To prolong the life of its battery, most green lasers operate on a quasi-continuous wave mode or using pulse.
*Blue – This is the most recent type of pointer model, which arrived in 2006. The blue fluorescence seen through white surface is produce at emitting a light blue beam using 450nm wave length. In other types of material or surfaces, the color might appear to be violet.
Safety Recommendations
Although low-powered, Laser Pointers were determined to pose minimal hazards, especially to the eyes. Therefore, the health bureau has issued a few safety recommendations to ensure the safety of its user.
*Refrain from looking directly into the laser beam.
*Never point a laser beam directly into a person’s eyes.
*Do not point the laser beam at surfaces that reflect.
*Never allow children the use the pointer device unless it is under an adult’s supervision.
